Evening of Friendship
Soirée de l’Amitié
The Friendship Night will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30 pm, at the Prémontrés Abbey in Pont-à-Mousson.
The Premonstratensian order is one of the three great religious orders of the Middle Ages with the Benedictines and the Cistercians. The order was founded in the forest of Saint-Gobain, located in the present department of Aisne. A lion had escaped and prowled in the forest. During a beating, he showed himself closely: the place was called prae monstratum. The abbey was created near this place by Saint-Norbert in 1121.
In Lorraine, the first Premonstratensian abbey, located in the countryside, was replaced by the grandiose Sainte-Marie Majeure thanks to the abbot of Verdun Servais de Lairuelz and the Jesuits of Pont-à-Mousson from the beginning of the 17th century. The abbey, as it is known today, was built in 1705 under the reign of Duke Leopold I of Lorraine by the architect of classical inspiration, Thomas Mordillac.
Finished by Nicolas Pierson, she leaves the example of a baroque style very sober.
